Our Mission Statement

It Takes A Village Animal Rescue & Resources is a 501C3 animal welfare organization. At It Takes A Village, we are working to create a future where no animal suffers from cruelty, neglect, or homelessness. Our mission is rooted in compassion, driven by action, and now strengthened through our partnership with the City of Muscatine.

In 2025, Muscatine took a historic step forward by choosing a more humane path—entrusting animal control sheltering services to It Takes A Village and legalizing Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) within city limits for the first time. Together, we’re proving that communities can protect both public safety and animal welfare without reverting to outdated, inhumane practices.

Through our Path to No-Kill, we work to eliminate unnecessary euthanasia by increasing adoptions, building strong transport partnerships, and ensuring every pet has access to affordable veterinary care. Our Village Transport Partners program saves animals from overcrowded, high-kill shelters and finds them loving homes across our region.

The ITAV Spay & Neuter Clinic and Project: Humane Litter Prevention (TNR) address the root causes of overpopulation by providing low-cost and grant-funded sterilization services to both pet owners and feral cat caretakers. These efforts are reducing unwanted litters and transforming how our community cares for its animals.

Through our Pet Care Pantry and free vaccine clinic events, we help families keep pets in their homes, protecting both animal and public health. Our ITAV Animal Science & Education Program inspires compassion and responsible pet ownership among youth through free educational programs in classrooms and outdoor settings.

We also remain a trusted partner in disaster response and law enforcement support, providing shelter, evacuation, and care for animals affected by emergencies, neglect, or cruelty.

With each life saved and each partnership formed, we move closer to a world where every pet is valued, protected, and free from suffering.
